Kabioca supports World Environment Day

June 5th is World Environment Day

This day, designated in 1972 during the Stockholm conference organized by the UN, with the objective to raise awareness around environmental issues, was first celebrated in 1974 under the slogan “Only One Earth”.

Since then, it has become a global communication platform, aiming to showcase environmental policies and highlight citizen initiatives towards the environment.

2021-2030 : Reimagine. Recreate. Restore.

After five decades focusing on, among other things, drinking water supply and sanitation, natural disasters reduction, biodiversity and pollution prevention, a new chapter opens in 2021: the United Nations Decade on ecosystem restoration, hosted this year by Côte d’Ivoire.

Forests and trees, urban areas, oceans and coasts, our planet is full of ecosystems to protect. Each year, around 4.7 million hectares of forest are destroyed around the world, the equivalent of an entire country, and greenhouse gas emissions have multiplied by four in 60 years.

And the coffee industry is partly responsible, since 40,000 tons of aluminum capsules (the equivalent of four Eiffel Towers) and the equivalent of 2,2 billion plastic bags are thrown away every year, among which only 1 out of 4 are recycled. This is not to mention the particularly polluting machines sometimes used to produce coffee beans.

Which is why, at KABIOCA, we have chosen to offer eco-responsible coffee, good for the planet, which will also delight your palate. We have reimagined a daily gesture. We have recreated capsules 100% efficient and airtight, but 100% natural for an espresso percolated to perfection with a reduced environmental impact. In addition to a coffee resulting from the organic farming, and biodegradable and compostable capsules, we strive to reduce the environmental footprint throughout our supply chain, as evidenced by our TUV Austria OK Home Compost and OK Biobased 4 stars certifications. The compost created will restore the reserves of materials used to produce the capsule.

Take part at your level

Why not join the #GenerationRestoration too?

You can take part in the initiative in your daily life, for example by switching your consumption habits and opting for sustainable labelled products to reduce the local and global environmental footprint.

Replacing aluminum capsules by biodegradable capsules is already a first step. They will disintegrate on their own after a few weeks, without releasing harmful gases into the atmosphere. Up to 2 coffees per day, this saves nearly 1kg of aluminum per year!

To go even further and take part in the ecosystems’ restoration, you can throw away your KABIOCA Dolce Gusto capsules with your organic or green waste. Sent to industrial composting plants, they will biodegrade in 12 weeks, return to the soil and improve soil fertility.
